How is iron tailings treated? Read on:
1. Secondary separation to recover iron concentrate: Iron concentrate can be recovered through secondary separation of iron tailings.
2. Construction material production: Iron tailings can be used as a raw material and mixed with other raw materials to produce building materials such as concrete and bricks.
3. Mine reclamation: Backfilling treated iron tailings into mine voids helps restore the mine’s ecological environment.
4. Backfill material: Iron tailings can be used as backfill material to fill voids in underground mines after mining, improving pillar stability and preventing mine accidents.
5. Road materials: Iron tailings can be used to produce road materials such as asphalt concrete and cement concrete.
Can iron ore tailings be used to make sand? Yes.
Phase 1: Coarse Crushing of Iron Ore
Large iron ore is evenly fed from a silo by a vibrating feeder and conveyed to a jaw crusher for coarse crushing. After coarse crushing, the iron ore is screened by a vibrating screen and then conveyed by a belt conveyor to an impact crusher or cone crusher for secondary or fine crushing. If the iron tailings are smaller in size, they can be directly fed to the secondary or fine crushing equipment, and this step can be omitted.
Phase 2: Secondary or Fine Crushing of Iron Ore
After secondary or fine crushing, the iron tailings fed to the impact crusher/cone crusher are screened by a circular vibrating screen. Larger iron tailings are returned to the impact crusher/cone crusher for further crushing, forming a closed-circuit system.
Phase 3: Sand Making from Iron Ore
The crushed iron tailings are fed to a sand making machine for further crushing and shaping. If clean tailings sand is desired, they can be washed in a sand washer.
The above describes the wet sand making process for iron tailings. Dry sand making can also be used as needed.
Iron Ore Tailings Sand Making Applications
Iron ore tailings sand can be used as sand after certain processing and screening. However, its application may be affected by its presence, such as metal oxides and contaminants. For use in construction projects and concrete production, it is important to ensure that the sand’s quality meets relevant standards.
Also, after processing, iron ore tailings can be used as a raw material in cement plants. Some iron ore tailings contain other valuable metal elements that can enhance cement performance. Furthermore, using iron ore tailings to replace some traditional raw materials, such as limestone, helps reduce carbon emissions during cement production.
